Privacy, plainly.

This is Haddin Meier’s personal website, operated from Alberta, Canada. You can read every article and use search without accepting analytics. Haddin Meier is responsible for this site’s privacy practices and can be reached through the contact page.

Optional audience analytics

With your permission, Vercel Web Analytics, Google Analytics 4, and Cloudflare Web Analytics help me understand visits, traffic sources, approximate location, browser and device categories, reading activity, and page performance. This includes broad search topics, result counts, article selections, and contact-link clicks. Your free-text search is not sent to analytics providers.

Optional analytics scripts load only after you accept. Google Analytics may use first-party cookies to recognize repeat visits.

What I do not collect

I do not use advertising profiles, session recordings, keystroke tracking, precise GPS location, or visitor identity enrichment.

Your controls

Use Privacy settings in the footer to accept or reject optional analytics at any time. Withdrawing consent stops new collection and removes accessible Google Analytics cookies, but does not automatically delete information already processed. Your consent and animation preferences are stored in your browser until you change them or clear the site’s stored data.

Hosting, providers, and international processing

Vercel and Cloudflare process IP addresses, requested URLs, connection details, and security information to deliver and protect this site, independently of optional analytics. Your browser may also send Cloudflare network error reports containing URLs, referrers, and connection details to diagnose delivery problems. Avoid including confidential information in URLs.

Vercel, Google, and Cloudflare are based in the United States; Proton Mail is based in Switzerland. Information may be processed outside Canada and be subject to local laws and lawful government access. These providers explain their practices in their privacy notices:

Retention

Google Analytics event-level retention is configured for 14 months; aggregate reports may persist longer. Other analytics, hosting, and security records are retained according to provider practices and applicable obligations.

Messages and external links

Your email address, message, and attachments are handled through Proton Mail to respond to you. I retain correspondence only as needed for the conversation, security, or legal obligations, and review it for deletion when no longer needed. Contacting me does not subscribe you to a mailing list. External sites, including LinkedIn, have their own privacy practices.

Questions and privacy requests

Use the contact page to ask about these practices, raise a concern, or request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information I hold, subject to applicable law. I may need limited information to verify a request. Do not send identity documents or other sensitive information unless we have agreed on a secure method.

Some analytics records cannot reliably be linked to a named person, so I may be unable to identify a particular visit. I will explain any limits on a request. Where applicable, you may also contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
