This is Haddin Meier’s personal website, operated from Alberta, Canada. You can read every article and use search without accepting analytics. Haddin Meier is responsible for this site’s privacy practices and can be reached through the contact page.
Optional audience analytics
With your permission, Vercel Web Analytics and Google Analytics 4 help me understand visits, traffic sources, approximate location, browser and device categories, popular topics, and reading activity. Google Analytics is enabled only when a measurement property is configured. It may use first-party cookies to recognize repeat visits. Analytics scripts are not loaded until you accept.
On-site search reporting uses a small list of public topics, such as security and leadership. Other searches are counted as “other”. Your free-text search is not sent to either analytics provider. I measure result counts, article selections, reading milestones, and email or LinkedIn link clicks. A click does not tell me whether you sent a message.
Recognized LinkedIn links can report the public campaign labels “profile” or “thoughts”. Other campaign values are discarded. These labels describe where a link was shared, not who clicked it.
What I do not collect
No advertising profiles, session recordings, keystrokes, precise GPS location, visitor identity enrichment, or user accounts. Analytics event URLs exclude arbitrary query strings and fragments. Referrer reporting is limited to its origin. Vercel Analytics is skipped when an external referrer contains extra details that its script cannot remove.
Your controls
Use Privacy settings at the foot of any page to accept or reject optional analytics. The choice is stored in your browser. Withdrawing consent stops new collection and removes accessible Google Analytics cookies; the page reloads to unload tracking scripts. It does not automatically delete data already processed by a provider. Clearing browser storage resets your choice.
The animation preference is also stored locally in your browser and is not sent as an analytics event. Your device’s reduced-motion setting takes precedence.
Hosting, providers, and international processing
Hosting requires Vercel to process network requests, IP addresses, requested URLs, and security information to deliver and protect this site, independent of optional analytics. Do not put confidential information in URLs. Analytics providers receive connection information when their scripts are loaded after consent.
Vercel and Google are United States-based providers and may process information in the United States and other countries where they or their service providers operate. Information processed outside Canada may be subject to those countries’ laws and lawful government access. Contact me for questions about these providers or this site’s use of them.

Retention
Vercel’s free analytics reporting window is one month; that is a reporting limit, not a promise that every provider record is deleted at that point. Google Analytics event-level retention is configured for 14 months; aggregate reports can persist longer. Hosting and security records are retained according to provider practices and applicable obligations. Browser consent and animation preferences remain until you change them or clear the site’s stored data.
Messages and external links
Email links open your email application. If you contact me, your address, message, and attachments are handled through Proton Mail to respond to you. I retain correspondence only as needed for the conversation, security, or legal obligations, and review it for deletion when no longer needed. Proton is based in Switzerland; its privacy policy explains its processing. LinkedIn and other external sites have their own privacy practices. This site does not subscribe you to a mailing list.
Questions and privacy requests
Use the contact page to ask about these practices, raise a concern, or request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information I hold, subject to applicable law. I may need limited information to verify a request. Do not send identity documents or other sensitive information unless we have agreed on a secure method.
Some analytics records cannot reliably be linked to a named person, so I may be unable to identify a particular visit. I will explain any limits on a request. Where applicable, you may also contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
